Side Effects

There is no evidence of adverse reactions with maca in the literature.Toxicities

There is little information on maca's long-term effects. Its long-time use as a food product suggests low potential for toxicity.

Practitioners in the Holistic Healing field supported the use of “weaker” plant estrogens or estrogen precursors, such as Black Cohosh, Dong Quai, Vitex (Chaste berry) and other well-studied herbs, but today, there is considerable question regarding the use of any form of estrogen supplementation for most women, since the core of the problems during Menopause appears to be TOO MUCH estrogen - NOT, too little. So Is maca safe, seek out the guidance of a good general practitioner.

It has been suggested that the symptoms which occur at this time of life are not a normal part of aging, but that they are a result of years of estrogen accumulation in our bodies from exposure to petrochemical sources.

We believe that Estrogen is not a single substance, but it is a Class of substances.

Just are there is Cane Sugar, Molasses, Glycogen, Honey, Inositol and Glycogen (all forms of Sugar) - some are safer and more nourishing than others.

Estrogens are found in Pesticides; in food and in our air, plastic wrap; carpeting; meats; to name only a few sources.

Since women have many more Estrogen Receptors, there is more storage capacity than for men, and women can expect therefore to have a greater estrogen load in their bodies.

Men have fewer estrogen receptors, nevertheless, these petrochemical estrogens are affecting men, too. Estrogen’s job in making a baby is to proliferate cells. This cell replication we can imagine is part of the issue with cancers of any kind.

Progesterone is the other key hormone during menopause and prior to this time of life.

Most women today have the opposite situation - ten times the estrogen to progesterone.

When we replace these hormones in synthetic form, a couple of problems arise.

First, the molecule of estrogen or progesterone is not an identical match to the one that your body makes, so it will not be used in exactly the same way.

Secondly, the ratio of Estrogen to Progesterone can never be successfully determined because the dosages are established based on blood work; which is not where the active hormones reside.

All hormone activity takes place in Fat Cells so Is Maca Safe.

This being said, women only have receptors (like a lock and key) for 3 types of estrogen, leaving the levels of the other 490-some unknown.

Because of these facts, we can see that any form of additional estrogen including Soy, estrogen herbs, etc. should be very carefully considered.

The addition of Progesterone in synthetic (drug) form makes the prospect for cancers even more concerning.

Studies reported from John’s Hopkins University over a 15 year period showed that women who were taking nothing for menopausal symptoms had the lowest numbers of breast cancer.

Those on estrogen only had a 1% per year increase and those on both Estrogen and Progesterone resulted in an 8% per year increase in breast cancer.

Maca has not only estrogen-tonic properties, but also contains nutritional support for all of the endocrine glands (organs which make these and other hormones).

So the question still remains Is maca safe

Rather than Replacing or stimulating these hormones, this well known plant of the Andes in Peru Nourishes ALL of the endocrine organs supplying the nourishment they need to manufacture the right balance of hormones for each woman.

So is the answer Maca?

Is it safe?

It is never wise to take chances with your health. In the important area of female hormonal balance, there is a perfect answer which has been proven over centuries of use and is available today for your personal benefit.

Since Science cannot yet tell us how to proceed safely, maybe it is time to trust Nature.

Your body knows how to manage any health imbalance. It just needs the right tools to work with! So the question Is maca safe, well like all natural remedies, taken in moderation and seeking guidance from a good local doctor is always a safe move.
